Spain's Ceuta Enclave Faces Mass Migrant Influx, Border Crisis
Tens of thousands of migrants, primarily from Morocco, crossed into Spain's North African enclave of Ceuta on July 30 and 31, 2026. Spanish authorities reported that approximately 60,000 migrants entered the territory, with at least 67 deaths recorded during the event. Spain responded by reinforcing its border with a floating barrier and stating that irregular entry does not grant the right to remain in Spain or travel within the EU. Some migrants reported being directed towards Spain by Moroccan authorities. Italy temporarily suspended the EU Schengen free-travel pact with Spain.
