US drops Reflecting Pool vandalism charges, cites botched repairs
The U.S. Department of Justice has moved to dismiss its case against former Olympian David Hearn, who had been charged with vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Prosecutors stated on Friday that the damage, which included peeling sealant, was the result of "botched installation" and "flawed work" during hurried renovations overseen by President Donald Trump. The Justice Department acknowledged that contractors, not vandalism, caused the damage. Trump had previously blamed "sick" vandals for the damage.
