High Courts Rule on Rape FIRs After Compromise/Consent

Two Indian High Courts have issued differing rulings regarding the quashing of rape First Information Reports (FIRs). The Madhya Pradesh High Court quashed an FIR, stating that a consensual relationship lasting four years does not constitute rape. Conversely, the Himachal Pradesh High Court ruled that an FIR in a rape case will not be cancelled even if a compromise is reached.
