Mountaineer Nirmal Purja Dies in Pakistan Avalanche
Veteran mountaineer Nirmal Purja died in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. A ground rescue team reached Purja at approximately 5,700m, where three additional bodies were sighted. Purja was leading an expedition when the avalanche occurred. Reports indicate a total of 10 climbers were swept away, and all are now confirmed dead. Purja was a record-breaking British-Nepali climber known for his '14 Peaks' achievement.
