Wildfires Force Evacuations in France and Washington State
Wildfires have prompted evacuations in both France and Washington State, USA. In France, a "megafire" in Gironde scorched an area four times the size of Paris, leading to the evacuation of 200,000 people, most of whom have since been allowed to return home. Another fire in the Var department flared up, forcing the evacuation of 2,500 people. In Washington State, three fast-moving wildfires in Spokane County burned approximately 250,000 acres, destroyed hundreds of structures, and forced the evacuation of about 60,000 people. Officials declared a state of emergency in Washington, with some fires remaining uncontained.
