India food regulator acts against liquor and food product claims
India's Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken action against liquor manufacturers United Spirits (USL) and Inbrew, along with Dabur India. FSSAI issued notices to USL and Inbrew for allegedly adding flavours that mimic the natural profile of alcoholic beverages, such as rum flavour in rum. The regulator also prohibited Dabur from selling products like honey, ghee, apple cider vinegar, and coconut oil that carry '100% pure' claims, deeming them misleading. United Spirits, owned by Diageo, has challenged the FSSAI's order regarding flavouring and labelling practices in the Bombay High Court.
