Detained Aung San Suu Kyi meets Red Cross official in Myanmar
Myanmar's detained former leader Aung San Suu Kyi met with a representative from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on August 3rd. The meeting, confirmed by the ICRC and the Myanmar president's office, is the first confirmed outside contact for the 81-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2.5 years. Photos of the meeting were released by the military government. Suu Kyi has been in detention since the February 2021 military coup that ousted her elected civilian government. The meeting occurred amid concerns over her health.
