Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage proceeds with school closures and reported incidents

The annual Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage, dedicated to Lord Shiva, has commenced in India. In Uttar Pradesh, schools and colleges in multiple districts, including Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Baghpat, were ordered to close between August 4 and August 12 as a safety measure. The pilgrimage involves devotees carrying holy Ganga water. Coverage noted reports of stone pelting in UP and described the event as a convergence of faith, governance, and politics. One report highlighted a 251-foot tricolour Kanwar in Haridwar drawing attention and spreading a message of patriotism. Another report mentioned a pregnant devotee delivering twin boys in Muzaffarnagar during the Yatra.
