US reports first two deaths from parasitic infection outbreak

Two deaths in Michigan have been linked to an outbreak of a parasitic infection causing explosive diarrhoea. Health officials stated the illness, spread through contaminated food or water, is not typically life-threatening. The two deceased individuals had pre-existing health conditions. The outbreak is caused by the cyclospora parasite.
