Extreme heat grips parts of Asia and Europe
South Korea recorded its highest-ever temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius, prompting authorities to issue an emergency alert advising citizens to cease outdoor activities and seek safe, air-conditioned locations. In Europe, Italy placed nearly all major cities on the highest heat alert, with Rome, Milan, and Naples already under a red alert. Meanwhile, parts of India, including Kolkata and its surrounding districts, experienced heavy overnight rain and thunderstorms, leading to waterlogged roads in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also forecast thunderstorms with lightning for several other Indian states.
