Assam floods: Death toll reaches 87, over 11 lakh affected

Monsoon rains have caused widespread flooding in India's Assam state, with the death toll rising to 87. Over 11.45 lakh people remain affected and are living in makeshift shelters. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma visited flood-ravaged areas and announced that compensation would begin after August 9. Canara HSBC Life Insurance has simplified its claims process for affected families. In a separate incident related to the floods, a man reportedly died while trying to save a drowning farmer in Kerala.
