Supreme Court: Transgender rights under 2026 amendment cannot be revoked
The Supreme Court orally stated on Monday that the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Rules, 2024, cannot cancel rights already granted. The court was hearing a plea challenging the amendment. The bench, led by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, indicated that the amendment cannot extinguish vested rights. The Centre was asked to respond to the court's query regarding the amendment's impact on previously established rights.
