Supreme Court Extends Mandatory Third-Party Vehicle Insurance Period
The Supreme Court has extended the mandatory third-party insurance cover for new vehicles. New cars will now have a four-year insurance cover, and new two-wheelers will have a six-year cover. The court stated this decision was made in the interest of road safety, noting that uninsured vehicles leave accident victims and their families without recourse to adequate compensation.
