Tamil Nadu, Karnataka clash over Cauvery water release; Mullaperiyar dam dispute escalates
Tamil Nadu has approached the Supreme Court, asking it to direct Karnataka to release its share of Cauvery water, alleging Karnataka "wilfully" ignored a directive from the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA). Tamil Nadu also plans to raise the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam. Kerala has strongly protested this move, stating it will approach the Supreme Court if Tamil Nadu proceeds with raising the water level beyond 142 feet. Reports indicate that the Cauvery inflow to Tamil Nadu in July was the lowest in decades.
