Calcutta High Court comments on Vande Mataram in madrasas
The Calcutta High Court remarked that "heavens will not fall" if all six stanzas of Vande Mataram are sung in madrasas. The court was hearing a public interest litigation challenging a directive for madrasa students to sing the national song. The court questioned the necessity of mandating such songs and suggested that if students in Christian schools sing prayers, singing Vande Mataram should not be an issue. Arguments were presented that forcing the song could disrupt communal harmony.
