India, Pakistan trade accusations over PoK, media curbs

India has rejected Pakistan's attempt to observe August 5 as an 'Exploitation Day' and criticized Pakistan's local polls in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as a 'complete farce.' The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also raised concerns about violence against protesters in PoK, with one report citing the killing of 90 civilians. In response to the scrutiny over the crackdown and media access, Pakistan has reportedly imposed new restrictions on foreign media, including requiring No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for reporting and banning them from most of the country. These curbs have drawn criticism from press freedom groups.
