Meta apologizes to India for restricting PM Modi's post, faces bias questions
Meta officials appeared before a parliamentary panel in India and apologized for temporarily restricting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Facebook post. The company also faced grilling over algorithmic bias, with allegations that objectionable content like pornography is readily available while legitimate content is removed. Meta's Public Policy Head, Joel Kaplan, acknowledged the error in removing the Prime Minister's post. The company has apologized twice in two days for restricting the post and for promoting child sexual abuse and deepfake content, attributing issues to its algorithms. The government has summoned Meta officials again regarding the matter.
