Bangladesh to hold presidential election on August 20
Bangladesh will hold its presidential election on August 20, the Election Commission announced. Nomination papers are due to be submitted by August 13 at the Chief Election Commissioner's office, with scrutiny scheduled for August 16. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until August 18. The election became necessary after President Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned on July 24, citing health reasons. Under the constitution, members of parliament elect the president, with the Election Commission managing the process.
