Union Cabinet Approves ₹23,731 Crore Scheme to Boost Biogas Production

The Union Cabinet has approved the GOBARdhan scheme with an outlay of ₹23,731 crore to boost compressed bio-gas (CBG) production. The scheme aims to increase domestic CBG production tenfold and mobilize private investment. It intends to create a ₹75,000 crore industry by shifting to a full-market framework, guaranteeing demand, and supporting production and investment. The scheme also includes six pillars: assured offtake, price stability, capex support, pipeline infrastructure development, credit guarantee, and a challenge fund for innovation. The Cabinet also approved an ₹8,970 crore highway project in Assam.
