UPI payments to remain free for consumers, says industry body
The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will continue to be free for consumers, according to industry stakeholders. The Payments Council of India and PhonePe CEO Sameer Nigam stated that small merchants will also remain unaffected by the debate around Merchant Discount Rate (MDR). This assurance comes amidst discussions regarding the potential reintroduction of MDR on UPI transactions.
