Louisiana has reported nine cases of Vibrio vulnificus infections, a type of "flesh-eating bacteria," resulting in five deaths. Health officials stated that Vibrio infections can lead to gastrointestinal illness, wound infections, and bloodstream infections. The bacteria is associated with exposure to seawater.
