Unsold Housing Inventory Rises, Driven by Premium Segment Accumulation

Unsold housing inventory in India increased by 4% year-on-year to over 5.25 lakh units in the first half of 2026, according to a Knight Frank report. While affordable housing below ₹1 crore continues to be absorbed, inventory is increasingly concentrated in the premium and luxury segments, which saw a 43% jump. The overall time to sell existing stock has risen to six quarters.
