Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey Sign New Defense Pact
Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey have formed a trilateral defense pact, described as a 'collective security' and 'collective deterrence' framework. A Turkish minister stated the pact's mutual defense clause is technically similar to NATO's Article 5. The agreement comes amid growing regional instability and a perceived diminished American strategic presence in West Asia. Some experts suggest the deal could precipitate a strategic shift in the Middle East, while others believe it reinforces US goals. Turkiye has stated the pact is not aimed at Iran.
