Silver Hallmarking to Become Mandatory Amidst Gold Price Surge
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will increase silver hallmarking testing as consumers increasingly opt for silver due to rising gold prices. Silver hallmarking, which has been voluntary since 2005, will include a Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) number for purity verification starting September 2025. This move aims to enhance consumer trust and transparency in the silver market.
