Supreme Court asks government to consider AI ethics guidelines
The Supreme Court has asked the Union government to consider a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that flagged the use of 'high-risk' Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems in public welfare. The court directed the Centre to examine proposals for regulating these AI systems, including their legal basis, purpose, data use, and safeguards. The PIL sought disclosure of all existing and proposed high-risk AI systems used by Union ministries and agencies. The court disposed of the petition after the government was asked to consider the suggestions.
