Sebi proposes changes to settlement rules for faster, lower penalties

India's Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has proposed an overhaul of its settlement rules. The changes aim to reduce settlement amounts by potentially halving the gap between initial settlement offers and final penalties. A new fast-track route is proposed for cases up to ₹10 lakh, and the settlement window is extended to 60 days before a show-cause notice (SCN) and 90 days after. These measures are intended to speed up enforcement and resolve cases more quickly.
