Heavy Rains Cause Flooding and Disruptions Across India and Internationally
A low-pressure system is moving towards Jharkhand, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rainfall in sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri until August 21. Heavy rains have also caused significant waterlogging and urban flooding in parts of Pakistan, including Rawalpindi and Islamabad. In India, schools in Prayagraj and Uttarakhand were closed on August 18 due to torrential downpours and severe waterlogging, with 97 roads blocked in Uttarakhand. Internationally, record rainfall in South Korea has led to a landslide that killed one person, while Japan reported 10 fatalities due to heavy rainfall and subsequent power outages. Manila also experienced street flooding from monsoon rains.
