Karnataka Assembly Elects Deputy Speaker Amidst Ministerial Disruption
Mankal Vaidya was unanimously elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly. His election occurred on the same day that Assembly proceedings were disrupted by the BJP and JD(S) demanding the resignation of Minister B Nagendra. The opposition cited a scam in relation to Nagendra's re-induction into the cabinet. Vaidya, a Congress MLA, filed his nomination and was elected unopposed.
