Bihar Govt Admits AK-47 Firing During Protest, No Injuries Reported
The Bihar government informed the Supreme Court that a constable fired an AK-47 rifle four times into the air during a student protest in Siwan after being "trapped" in the crowd. The government stated that no one was injured by the firing. The court was also told that 69 FIRs were registered and approximately 500 people were arrested between July 22 and July 25, with the government denying allegations of excessive force. Separately, Delhi Police informed the Supreme Court that facial recognition technology was used in a "legitimate state interest" during protests.
