IIT Delhi Students Protest Over Mental Health and Hostel Rules Following Student Death
Students at IIT Delhi are protesting following the alleged suicide of an MSc student, Rishikesh Kumar. The protests, which began after Kumar's death, are demanding improvements to campus mental health infrastructure, an end to gender-based hostel restrictions, and protection for peaceful protest. The IIT Delhi Director acknowledged that current mental health support is insufficient and promised reforms. Protests were temporarily put on hold pending the report of an external inquiry panel investigating Kumar's death. Separately, students at IISER Pune are also protesting over similar demands regarding mental health and hostel policies.
