Manipur Census Operations Postponed Amid Community Demands

The Indian government has deferred census operations in Manipur. The decision followed a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The postponement comes amid conflicting demands from different communities in the state. The Kuki community opposes calls for a National Register of Citizens (NRC) before the census, while Meitei and Naga groups have reportedly called for an NRC. The Manipur High Court had also put house-listing on hold until October 12.
