Nepal Floods: Rescue Efforts Hampered by Terrain, Death Toll Rises
Rescue operations in Nepal are facing significant challenges due to swollen rivers, washed-out roads, and difficult terrain, as the death toll from recent floods has risen to at least 939. Rescuers are battling rain and using explosives in attempts to reach hundreds of people, including hydropower workers, trapped in tunnels and hillside locations. Three Indian nationals have been rescued and are being facilitated for return by their embassy. The disaster has left villages buried in mud, with survivors sheltering in temporary accommodations and aid workers racing against time to prevent disease outbreaks.
