Apple, Google Maps Renamed Lake Ontario to Lake America After Trump Order
Following an executive order from President Donald Trump, Apple Maps and Google Maps updated their systems to display "Lake America" instead of "Lake Ontario" for users in the United States. This change was part of a dispute with Canada. MapQuest, however, refused to make the change and saw a surge in popularity, becoming the number one free app on Apple's App Store. Some residents in towns along the lake expressed strong opinions about the renaming. Mayors of towns along the lake also stated they would not use the new name. Joe Rogan commented on the renaming, calling it a distraction.
