Massive Electoral Roll Deletions Spark Concerns Across India
Across India, significant numbers of names have been deleted from draft electoral rolls, raising concerns. In Maharashtra, 2.07 crore names were removed, with 75 lakh (approximately 37%) marked as 'absent or untraceable'. Thane district alone saw over 38% of names deleted. In Delhi, 47.56 lakh people were removed from the draft roll. Mumbai's Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged political parties to assist voters following the removal of 36 lakh names from its electoral rolls. These deletions have prompted allegations of 'vote theft'.
