Allahabad High Court Rules on RTI and CCTV Footage Access
The Allahabad High Court has ruled that CCTV footage cannot be directly provided to an applicant under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. This decision came in response to a plea challenging an order by the Uttar Pradesh State Information Commission, which had rejected an RTI application seeking CCTV footage. While the court stated that footage cannot be given directly to the applicant, it clarified that a competent court or commission can order the preservation and summoning of footage for investigating a complaint. The court noted that the petitioner had not yet filed a complaint with a competent forum.
