Indian electricity trading hits record; EV sales surge globally
The Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) reported a record electricity trading volume of 13,938 million units (MU) in August, a 20.2% increase year-on-year. The exchange's Green Market segment also saw a 17.3% rise. Higher power demand contributed to increased buy bids and prices in the Day-Ahead Market, though Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) volumes declined significantly. Separately, global electric vehicle (EV) sales show strong growth, with Portugal's car market up 11.3% in August and EV sales jumping 65.2%, now representing over a third of new sales. In Australia, EV sales surpassed petrol car sales for the first time in August, with over 27,000 EVs sold, driven by rising fuel costs and government policy. In India, electric three-wheelers (E3Ws) bucked an overall auto slowdown, with registrations doubling year-on-year and capturing 51% of the three-wheeler market.
