UN Adopts New World Map Highlighting Africa's True Scale
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has endorsed a new world map that more accurately depicts the size of Africa. This decision marks the conclusion of the Togo-led "Correct Thae Map" campaign, supported by the African Union and various advocacy groups. The resolution calls for phasing out the traditional Mercator map, which critics argue visually exaggerates Western nations and makes Africa appear smaller than it is. The new map uses the Equal Earth projection to show countries' true relative sizes. The resolution was backed by 164 nations, with the United States casting the sole vote against it.
