Punjab Government Proposes 18% Dearness Allowance Hike for 85,000 Employees
The Punjab government has proposed to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) for approximately 85,000 government employees recruited after July 17, 2020. The DA will be raised by 18 percentage points, from the current 42% to 60%. This decision was made by a three-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, including Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Industries and Commerce Minister Aman Arora, and Social Security Minister Baljit Kaur. Minister Aman Arora announced on Friday that the recommendation will be sent to the Chief Minister. However, employee organizations have expressed dissatisfaction, viewing the move as an attempt to divide the workforce.
