Man Arrested in Delhi for Jantar Mantar Attack, Faces New Charges
Delhi Police have arrested Swatantra Bhardwaj in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, in connection with an attack during a protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20. Bhardwaj is accused of assaulting the father of a student protester. Following the arrest, a new First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Bhardwaj under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, after a minor alleged receiving online threats. Additional sections of the SC/ST Act have also been added to an existing FIR. Bhardwaj has denied the attack, claiming self-defense. Separately, Bhardwaj faces allegations of misusing the name and photograph of politician Chirag Paswan, who has filed a complaint.
