India braces for heavy monsoon rains across multiple states
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several Indian states over the next few days. As of September 5, 2023, 17 states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, were forecast to experience intense showers and thunderstorms with wind speeds up to 60 km/h. Specific regions like Himachal Pradesh's Kangra and Sirmaur districts, Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior, Chambal, Sagar, and Ujjain divisions, and Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi, Haridwar, and Dehradun districts have received yellow alerts for heavy rainfall. In response to the weather conditions, schools in Pipraich, Pithoragarh, and seven districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Shivpuri and Morena, have been closed. Some areas in Delhi-NCR are also experiencing waterlogging.
