US Regulator Probes Tesla Cybercab Certification Amid Robotaxi Launch
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation into Tesla's Cybercab robotaxi service. The probe focuses on how Tesla certified approximately 1,000 driverless vehicles that reportedly lack steering wheels, pedals, or mirrors. This investigation comes shortly after Tesla began commercial robotaxi operations in Austin, Texas, and planned for expanded service. Tesla started manufacturing the Cybercab in April, with Elon Musk projecting significant production growth. The NHTSA is assessing whether these vehicles comply with federal safety regulations.
