Sikh Man Alleges Torture by Punjab Police; BJP Seeks NHRC Probe
A Sikh man named Mohanjeet has alleged that he was arrested and tortured in police custody in Sangrur, Punjab, for showing a black flag to the Chief Minister. The Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) stated that an inquiry has been ordered into the allegations. The SSP also noted that Mohanjeet was facing eight prior First Information Reports (FIRs) for serious offenses and had previously tested positive for drugs. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has requested a probe by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) into the alleged custodial torture by the Punjab Police.
