UN Adopts New World Map Resolution
The United Nations has adopted a resolution to use the Equal Earth map projection. This new map aims to more accurately represent the proportions of continents, particularly Africa and the Global South, which are often distorted in traditional map projections. The Equal Earth map is a compromise between area and shape accuracy, acknowledging that no flat map can perfectly represent a three-dimensional globe. Different map projections have inherent drawbacks and distortions, and the choice of projection depends on its intended use.
