Around a Quarter of Indian Workers Do Unpaid Overtime of 16+ Hours Weekly, Study Finds
A research study by ADP found that roughly 24‑25% of employees in India work at least 16 extra hours each week without pay. The study identified India as the leading country in terms of the share of workers doing unpaid overtime. The report noted that the unpaid overtime is associated with increased workplace pressure. It also said that productivity or work capacity tends to decline under such conditions. Additionally, the study indicated that workers who regularly do unpaid overtime are more likely to seek new employment. No government response or policy change was reported in the coverage.
