Nepal and Tibet Floods Cause Widespread Devastation and Casualties
Flooding and landslides in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China have resulted in significant casualties and missing persons. In Nepal, the death toll has risen to 1,344, with approximately 5,000 people still missing. Chinese authorities reported recovering 12 more bodies from the Gyirong border crossing, a key point on the China-Nepal border that was devastated by landslides. Rescue operations are ongoing, with search areas divided into zones, and efforts continue to find hundreds of missing individuals. Some reports indicate that over 450 people have died from the floods in the Nepal-Tibet region, while others specify 43 deaths in Tibet. International media were taken on a trip to the disaster zone in Tibet to survey Chinese relief efforts.
