US Strikes Iranian Tankers; Iran Retaliates, Captures Drone
The United States destroyed five Iranian oil tankers following missile attacks on its warships. In retaliation, Iran struck a US base in Jordan and claimed to have captured an advanced US underwater drone near the Strait of Hormuz. US officials acknowledged the drone capture but stated it was defective and lacked sensitive technology. Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has reportedly fallen below its 10-day average. The US has also imposed sanctions on dozens of Iranian airlines as the conflict escalates. One report noted that Americans are facing a $100 billion energy bill due to the Iran war.
