Congress leader demands resignation of Punjab CM and minister over musician's death
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to resign and on minister Harpal Singh Cheema to step down, demanding an independent investigation into the death of Gulzar Singh, a resident of Sangrur identified as Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh. Gulzar Singh had reportedly approached Minister Cheema alleging his son was using drugs and seeking action to protect Punjab's youth, according to BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia. The BJP also demanded Mann's resignation, linking the incident to broader concerns about the state government's handling of law and order. Rahul Gandhi alleged that the AAP government is fostering a pattern of intimidation, claiming that questioning failures leads to threats and torture. In a separate political exchange, the BJP referenced a past remark by Piyush Goyal Pitroda describing the Northeast as "Chinese" as part of its criticism. No court or police investigation details were provided, and the calls for resignation and probe remain political statements.
