Orangutans Rescued in Odisha Amid Suspected Smuggling Operation

Five young orangutans were discovered abandoned in a forest area in Odisha's Balasore district during a routine patrol. Officials suspect the animals, which are not native to India, were part of a botched illegal smuggling transit operation. The Odisha Environment Department has approached the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) for expertise in investigating the case, which involves the illegal trafficking of wild animals. The rescued orangutans have been quarantined at the Nandankanan Zoo for medical observation.
