Paris ex-mayor acknowledges failures amid child abuse investigation
Former Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo has acknowledged a "collective failure" to protect children following an investigation into over 200 allegations of violence, mistreatment, and sexual abuse at the city's state-run nurseries and primary schools. The alleged abuses reportedly occurred over more than a decade. Separately, a Paris childcare worker, identified as Michaël M., was convicted of sexually assaulting nine children between 2022 and 2024. He received a one-year sentence of house arrest with an ankle tag, a four-year suspended prison sentence, and a ban on working with children.
