Oil Tanker Struck by Projectile Near Strait of Hormuz
The Panama-flagged oil tanker MT El Gaia was struck by a projectile off the coast of Oman in the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel was operating in "dark mode" with its Automatic Identification System turned off at the time of the incident. The tanker had 25 crew members on board, including 14 Indian nationals and 11 Pakistani nationals. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed the tanker exploded after striking naval mines. The United States rejected the IRGC's claim, stating the vessel was attacked by Iran twice.
